Lawsuit – Redrawing the NYS Assembly lines

April 24, 2023.  Lines for the 150 Assembly Districts signed into law.  Voters won the lawsuit last year, but lost the Albany controlled redistricting.  Next round: 2032.

April 20, 2023.  New State Assembly lines adopted by the NY Independent Redistricting Commission by a vote of 9 to 1.

December 1, 2022.  Draft of State Assembly lines made public.  Hearing in Queens is scheduled for February 16, 2023.

Hon. Laurence L. Love ordered the Independent Redistricting Commission to redraw the State Assembly line on or before April 28, 2023.


Paul Nichols, Gavin Wax and Gary Greenberg v. Governor Kathy Hochul filed May 15, 2022 was heard before Hon. Laurence L. Love at the New York County Supreme Court, in person, IAS Part 63 Room 355, 60 Centre Street, New York on May 23, 2022.

Denied as untimely.  Appealed May 25, 2022 before the Appellate Court, First Department.  Hearing scheduled June 9, 2022 at 2 pm.  Appellate Decision: Assembly lines will be voided, but not in 2022.

Hearing is to be held 10:30 am on September 16, 2022 at 60 Centre Street, Room 355, as to whether the New York State Redistricting Commission should be added as a Respondent in the redrawing of the State Assembly lines.
