Announcements: Isaiah Vega mentioned the City of YES for Housing Opportunity proposal passed City Council Committee of Land Use and Subcommittee on Zoning and Franchises today. A vote is expected on December 5, 2024. Danniel advised that even though Local Law 11 Non-Citizen Voting was ruled unconstitutional by Supreme and Appellate courts, Mayor Adams appealed. The case (Fossella v. Adams) will be argued before the Court of Appeals on February 11, 2025. The fact that Proposition One was passed, it could be used as a point to overturn the unconstitutionality. Elena Chin, president of the Queens chapter of Moms for Liberty, talked about post-Proposition One. The result was disappointing, but her group is focused on education and school choice. A major focus currently is New York State Education Department (NYSED) Boards of Cooperative Educational Services (BOCES) District Superintendents regionalization power grab plan. Danniel added that in the City of New York, the Republican flipped one seat, Stephen Chan against Iwen Chu for State Senate, District 17 in Brooklyn. Statewide, Republican flipped State Assembly District 16 by Daniel Norber in Great Neck, Long Island.

The panel of candidates who talked about their election included: Julie Milner, Civil Court Judge; Stephen Dachtera, Civil Court Judge; Misbaah Mahmood, State Assembly District 24; Felicia Seidel, Queens Coordinator for Robert Kennedy, Jr.; Brandon Castro, State Assembly District 30; Jonathan Rinaldi, State Assembly District 28; Ricardo Pacheco, State Assembly District 34; and Juan Pagan, State Senate District 16.

Eric Vineski presented his election analysis comparing years 2016, 2020, 2022 and 2024. New York went from flipping 5 Congressional seats in 2022 to a lost of 4 in 2024 due to redistricting: George Santos to Tom Suozzi, CD3; Anthony DEsposito to Laura Gillen, CD4; Marcus Molinaro to Josh Riley, CD19; and Brandon Williams to John Mannion, CD22. His main conclusion is that there is no material change in the number of white voter turnout. His analysis is available to download or view.

Meeting ended at 9:33 pm.  The next meeting is December 19, 2024.  We will introduce candidates running for mayor, comptroller and public advocate.
