(ConcernedPatriot.com) – The former mayor of San Francisco, Willie Brown, wrote a 137-word opinion piece published this past weekend regarding Kamala Harris, “Yes, we dated.” That was over 20 years ago.”

This may sound like a strange and unexpected confession to those unfamiliar with California politics’s complexities.

Long-simmering rumors about Harris’s relationship with Brown arose on her Oakland kickoff presidential campaign rally day.

Following Harris’s campaign announcement, Brown claims he was “peppered” with questions from the media regarding their relationship and felt he had to release a statement.

Following Brown’s divorce from his wife in 1981, Harris and Brown had a romantic relationship in the mid-1990s.

The San Francisco Chronicle claims that they broke up in 1995. In 2014, Harris married California-based attorney Douglas Emhoff.

Harris’ campaign remained silent in reaction to the op-ed.

Brown’s op-ed appears to address any criticism Harris might have regarding their relationship—something she made a point of distancing herself from during her 2003 San Francisco district attorney campaign.

In addition to serving as speaker of the California State Assembly for around 15 years, Brown is a two-term mayor of San Francisco. He has a long history in California politics. He is well-known for having enormous sway over the San Francisco political establishment.

Harris’s speaker ship in the mid-1990s coincided with Brown’s relationship with her, after which he and his wife Blanche divorced for nearly ten years.

Their relationship is described as an “extramarital affair.” When they first met, Harris was 29, and Brown was 60.
